Is It True That Your Thoughts Determine Your Life Experience?

What are you thinking right now?

If we’re here to live fully and our thoughts are said to be key in determining our life experiences, then we can say that we are fully responsible for what we experience in life. Do you agree? If this is so, what can we do to empower ourselves to have a great life experience?

Stella Olivia Kikoyo

‘ Cogito Ergo Sum’ – ‘I think, therefore I AM.’Rene Descartes.  We start this by agreeing to the fact that we’re the thinking entity. We think, therefore we exist. Who thinks? You and I. Can you sperate the thinker from the thinking? Yes you can.

Our understanding of thought and the thought process could be key in helping  us to change our life trajectory. Are you excited as I am?

Let’s dive into some useful facts about thoughts

  1. One of the aspects I have learnt that has had a tremendous effect on me is the phrase that “Thoughts are Things.” Thoughts are creative in nature. Inspired by ‘As a Man Thinketh’ by James Allen, Proverbs 23:7 ‘As a Man Thinks, So He Is’ and ‘Think and Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill. You can create magic in your life.
  2. Thoughts are NOT facts.  Always find ways to ask for facts in situations.
  3. According to Dr. Joe Dispenza, “Your thoughts determine your life experience.” You create your own reality by the vibrational thoughts you think which is related to the law of attraction. Thought can trigger the release of stress hormones that stimulate your heart rate to speed up or slow down
  4.  “Thoughts are a language of the brain; feelings are the language of the body. “  With mind you think, with body you feel.
  5. We have 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day! How do we even create with all of these?
  6. 90% of the thoughts are the same as the day before. This means that the same thoughts will lead to the same choices, the same behaviour, the same experience and the same emotion.
  7. What is known is that, the complexity of thought processes is still not clear to all those interested. We’re all still learning more about thoughts.
  8. It is known that the brain is composed of neurons, which are cells that generate electronic impulses for communication. It is also estimated that the brain has close to 100 billion neurons. The neurons are known to release brain chemicals known as neuro transmitters which generate these electronic signals. It is the electronic signals that propagate a wave to thousands of neurons which lead to thought formation. In summary, thoughts are generated when neurons fire.
  9. Our environment plays a part in contributing to the pattern of the neuro firing which results into thought processes. If these neurons continue to fire then it reinforces the current thought. In real terms if we’re in the same situation, the firing of our neurons is going to be strong and reinforced. This explains why we keep reacting in the same way every time we’re in the same situation.
  10. Every Thought is literally a physical path that is formed within your brain. The more you have or hold a certain thought, the deeper the imprint that this path will make and the easiest it will be for the thought to reoccur in your mind. This makes it important to constantly have uplifting and optimistic thoughts.
  11. The brain has something called “Negativity bias” that makes us remember bad news more than good. This means we’re most likely going to have negative thoughts unless we consciously direct the thought process.
  12. Our thoughts can make us sick. Our thoughts can make us heal. However this is only true if the thought is entwined with a corresponding positive or negative feeling.
  13. We have the power to change our thought. However, one has to become conscious of their thought process. By becoming aware of how you think, how you feel and how you act then you become conscious. The process of consciously thinking about your unconscious thinking is called METACOGNITION.  The more conscious, you become of unconscious state of mind and body, the less likely you’re to be unconscious during the day. We can change the thought patterns by monitoring our thoughts or attitude which can alter the pattern of neurons which eventually can lead to a new behaviour and new experience. This makes us powerful as it gives us control. It means you can effectively choose where to place your attention and cultivate happiness. Whenever you change your focus, you change your experience of the situation.
  14. It has been noted the nutrition contributes to the brain function and chemicals. This means that nutritional deficiencies would alter your brains chemistry which could affect your thoughts processes as well. If there is a deficiency, it may mean that neurons will fire abnormally and your thoughts may not be the best.
  15. Through thought process alone, we’re work in progress. Every time you learn anything new for example if there’s anything you have learnt from this material and anything you will remember, envision, think about yourself, what you feel or fear will be reflected in your neurological wiring and will start to make you.
  16. We can change our brain by just thinking. Whatever you entertain in your brain, affirm and reaffirm consciously or unconsciously is what you are and or what you will become.

If you struggle with letting go of your thoughts and beliefs

Here’re some mantras for trusting and letting go

  • I trust that I am on the right path and that all is happening exactly as it should.
  • I know that it is safe to let go and let life unfold as it is meant to.
  • I realise that controlling and pushing means blocking and resisting guidance. Instead I trust.
  • The more I let go, the higher I rise.

“I am never upset for the reason I think.”
“I am not angry at_______ for the reason I think.”
“I am not afraid of ______ for the reason I think.”

“I am not worried about _____for the reason I think.”

“I am not depressed about _____for the reason I think.”

Lesson 5 from ‘A Course in Miracles’ by Helen Schucman, PhD

In summary you can become conscious of your thought and start to redirect it so that you start to create the life experience that you deeply desire. Start now by observing how focused your attention was to this material, this means that you were able to move away from whatever you were thinking about before. Do the same to things that give you more joy. Make your thoughts matter. Live well.
